Itinerary

Departure to Morocco

Depart the US to Casablanca via a variety of different air options.

Day 1: Arrival in Casablanca/Rabat

Upon your morning arrival in Casablanca, you will be met by our English speaking Moroccan guide. After leaving the airport, drive approximately one hour to Rabat, the capital of Morocco. where our visit includes the 12th century Hassan Tower. We begin at the end of the 12th century under the direction of Sultan Yacub al Mansour, the intent was that it be the largest minaret in the world, at that time. Due to his death within four years of the start, construction stopped and the tower that remains is approximately half the height that was originally intended.

After checking into your boutique in Rabat and having an opportunity to refresh yourself and enjoy a light lunch, your guide will take you on what will be primarily, a walking tour of Rabat.

Dinner tonight of traditional Moroccan cuisine. Overnight in Rabat. (B, L, D)

Day 2: Meknes/Fez

This morning you depart Rabat to Meknes, one of Morocco’s four Imperial cities. After exploring a bit of Meknes, much of which is under renovation, you travel to Volubulis, the largest Roman archaeological site in Morocco.

From Volubulis you continue a bit more than an hour and a half to Fez, an exotic, medieval city. Walk through the medina and hear about some of the architecture that makes this such an interesting city. Overnight at Riad le Calile in Fex. (B)

Day 3: Fez

Today is fully devoted to Fez. You will also have time to walk through the maze of alleyways, a walking tour that is only suitable for hearty and healthy walkers, as the ancient medina is filled with narrow roads that would limit transportation to animal-pulled vehicles. Dining recommendations to be provided. There are numerous options in Fez. Overnight in Fez. (B, L)

Searching design and food magazines, as well as online sources, one finds that Moroccan cuisine and the restaurant scene in Marrakech is hot!!! Numerous suggestions will be provided, as well as instructions on how to get to the restaurant of your choice.
This morning’s touring will begin with the Marjorelle Gardens and its neighboring museum. Beautiful floral experience from Yves Saint Laurant and his life partner, Pierre Berge.

Next you drive back into town to the famous Jemaa el-Fnaa, Morocco’s central square

Overnight in Marrakech. (B, L, D)

Day 6: Marrakesh

Perhaps more of Marrakech or the Ouriika valley as a day trip. This will take you into the High Atlas mountains where you will see a different type of architecture from what you have seen thus far. We wil stop at a synagogue what was founded by Amazigh (Berber) Jews more than 500 years ago. It has since been restored, but as the Amazigh were among those who converted the Judaism my years ago and we the indigenous population of Morocco, it is particularly unusual.

We return to Marrakech arriving late afternoon. Dinner tonight is independent.
